Ugly Fat Magazine is a Danish based, digital fashion magazine, with global outreach. We’re a magazine for the individual and independent fashionistas, who dares to think and dress according to their own beliefs and taste.
It is the mission of Ugly Fat Magazine to inspire our readers, so they can look to our magazine and our content for inspiration, which they can implement in their own life.
As a result of this mission, our content isn’t about dictating trends, but about experimenting with what’s cool and exploring various ways of perceiving good style. We don’t really do fashion, as much as we do style – all with a clear, subjective point of view. It should always be clear who means what and that it is just an opinion, a point of view. It’s all subjective, because we like opinions and we trust that our readers can make up their own mind about our content.
The magazine was started with the belief that beauty takes many shapes, sizes, ages, colors and looks. Us at Ugly Fat Magazine do not believe that beauty is one thing, we believe beauty is very multifaceted and includes innumerable looks. Therefor we are not afraid to work with models, that look different than the classic fashion aesthetics. We will feature any model, that looks good and looks interesting – as long as they know how to move in front of a camera. After all, beauty is subjective and in the eye of the beholder.
The style of the magazine is with inspiration from the classic, international style legends like Fellini, Audrey Hepburn, Coco Chanel and many, many more. Each issue contains visual and written references to classic style icons, but as a historic reference or with liberal inspiration from them. But we do not, in any way, condone plagerism.
Ugly Fat Magazine is a Copenhagen based magazine and therefor has a strong focus on Scandinavian, and particularly Danish, fashion and culture, but Ugly Fat Magazine also looks to international fashion and culture.
Regarding the name; Ugly Fat Magazine – it was picked, partly as a private joke between friends, partly as a comment to the fashion industry, that often hides everything that isn’t “desirable” and also as a reminder of the self criticism that hides behind ambition – after all, Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly and Diana Spencer – all huge icons, all very ambitious and each was an inspiration to millions of people, and all suffered from self criticism and eating disorders.
Who doesn’t know the feeling of looking at yourself in the mirror. and disapprove of what we see.
Ideology and ambition can be both uplifting and destructive – depending on how we carry it out.
The name; Ugly Fat Magazine, is a reminder of that – YOU decide who you are, YOU have the power to set your own narrative and YOU have your own opinions, your own way of life and your own goddamn mind!
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so behold yourself and admire your own fucking beauty!
Ugly Fat Magazine is all about celebrating differences; the odd ducks, subjective style and just general fabulousness.
